Designers Toolbox

Need to make an envelope? A DVD case? A folder? Or maybe you want to build a prototype design for an iPhone app. The Designers Toolbox is a great place to get some resource material for these sort of projects. You can download EPS templates of nearly every kind of envelope style you could need. There are GUI elements for Safari and Firefox (Mac & PC), as well as standard online banner dimensions.

There is some material from the DT that requires a small fee, but all the things I listed above are completely free! Just check out the Design Resources section linked from the top of the page. Enjoy.

From Compostmodern09

Greetings from Compostmodern09 – San Francisco

I was planning on doing some live blogging from the event, but I ran into some issues.

For those of you who dont know:
Compostmodern is an annual interdisplanery design
conference focused on sustainability.

The event was put on by:
AIGA San Francisco and
AIGA Center for Sustainable Design

FYI: AIGA Cleveland is showing the webcast of the conference on
Friday, Feb 27 (link)

Lots of hills

This is the Herbst Theatre (on right)

People still coming in, almost ready to start

The stage

Now on to the conference itself – some highlights.

"Scale is the new geography"
– Eames Demetrios (Grandson of Charles and Ray Eames)

Re-thinking your process means going beyond just soy inks, recycled stock, and other various production aspects, but rather looking at the design itself for achieving sustainability.

This was a board that was set up to help visualize this idea of scale ( used in a workshop)
It is this idea of scale that links the smallest cells to our galaxy.

Overall this was a great conference with enough creative inspiration to last months.

Poster

Design on Display poster
Thanks for the pic Shawn R.

mmm... Skyscraper I Love You

This book was the inspiration for the Design on Display poster. Although the book is seriously lacking in informative content, it is overflowing with inspirational experimental type designs.

Don't forget tocheckout DoD Monday Feb. 16th – Friday Feb. 27th! Faculty meet and greet is Tuesday Feb. 24th at 5pm.

Garfield Minus Garfield

I ran into these a few months ago and thought it was absolutely hilarious. Garfield Minus Garfield shows the the Garfield comic strips without Garfield. This makes John Arbuckle look like a man with manic depression and eerie loneliness.

A few of the ones I like:

You can even get a full book of these cartoons. Great gift.

Welcome to the new semester!

This blog has been set up to let the design students of the Kent State University AIGA student group express themselves, explain their ideas, speak their mind, and tell the world we know design.

Every few weeks a new student or two will participate in writing an entry talking about an event, idea, story, or opinion related to design. Don't get it wrong though, this is not meant to be a form of homework. Every participating student is being asked to show their opinion in hopes of interest to you, as well as to create a powerful image of KSU AIGA in the design community.
